Ages 18–24, or a student: half the price, same decision

Amazon's reduced-price plan for younger adults and students costs $7.49/month or $69.00/year — roughly half the standard $14.99/month, checked 2026-10-03 on Amazon's own fee page. Half the price lowers the break-even; it does not remove it. The plan also has an expiry date that the standard plan does not: your eligibility.

New members can try the membership free for 30 days days. After the trial, it renews at $14.99/month unless you cancel.

Will it still be worth it when the discount ends?

The reduced price is tied to eligibility: when eligibility ends, Amazon moves you to the standard $14.99/month — the same membership at roughly twice the price. That makes this a different decision from the full-price one. A plan can clear its fee today and still fail on the price you would actually keep paying. The discount is worth $7.50/month while it lasts ($70.00/year on the annual prices). None of the pages ranking for this plan prices both prices at once; this calculator does.

Worked examples

1. Two small orders a month, no streaming

Two orders at $3.50 each is $7.00/month of shipping you would otherwise pay, against a $7.49/month fee: 49 cents a month short. On the annual price ($5.75/month) the same inputs are $1.25/month ahead. That is how thin the line is at half price — small changes flip it.

2. The same person who also drops a streaming service

Add the $8.99 standalone video price as the value of the streaming they cancel: $7.00 + $8.99 = $15.99/month against $7.49/month, $8.50/month ahead (or $10.24/month ahead on the annual price). At half price, a single substituted subscription is usually enough to clear the fee.

Who should NOT get this

Questions we get

Who qualifies?

Amazon's own plan page describes this plan as covering students and people aged 18–24. Eligibility is verified by Amazon, not by this site, and the terms can change — check the plan page before you rely on it. If you do not qualify, the standard plan is $14.99/month.

How long is the trial?

Amazon advertises a 6 months trial for this plan, then the discounted monthly price (that is Amazon's own wording, checked 2026-10-03). Trials convert automatically, so cancel before the end date if you are testing rather than committing.

Is the annual option better?

$69.00 a year is $5.75 a month, about 23% less than $7.49 — if you keep it a year. If your eligibility might end sooner, monthly is the flexible choice.

Does the reduced-price plan include everything?

Amazon's own marketing describes it as the same membership at a lower price. Confirm the benefit list on the plan page rather than on a third-party summary — including ours.
